It isn’t news to regular blog readers that I love sunsets. Why do I love them so much? I love that each is different and you never know what colours might arrive once the sun departs. I love that sunsets signify the end of the day. I also love that I am probably not the only person in a particular place watching the beautiful moment. As an avid sunset follower, I have taken my fair share of sunset photos during my travels. Here are my favourite sunset photos from around the world.
I have already written about my love for Seattle sunsets, but they were the best I saw in the United States. I captured the sunset in Seattle from a few different viewpoints: beside the Great Wheel at Miner’s Landing, from Pike Place Market and at Olympic Sculpture Park. Each sight offered a different perspective for my sunset photos. It also helps that on North America’s West Coast the sun sets over the water, which always makes for a good photo.
Magnetic Island: Australia
I may be biased, but Magnetic Island — where my parents live — does a great sunset. I recommend trying to see the sunset from either West Point or Horseshoe Bay. West Point is only accessible by vehicle, but Horseshoe Bay is one of the island’s most popular bays for swimming and socialising. This sunset photo was captured at Horseshoe Bay a few years ago.
I remember this sunset because I was so happy taking this photo on Wilmington’s Riverfront. I had just had an amazing day in Wilmington, which quickly became my favourite Southern town. This sunset photo is a little different due to the wispy clouds, but that is what I like about it.
I can’t do a sunset photos post and not include Vancouver, my previous home in Canada. I still can’t believe the pink hues in my first photo, captured from my apartment’s balcony. For people who can’t access this space, I recommend seeing the sunset from North Vancouver. This way you can photograph the Vancouver skyline changing colours.
Now we shall move onto my newest home. Docklands, just south of Melbourne’s CBD is great for sunset photos. I also recommend a walk along the Yarra River at dusk for epic photo opportunities.
The best place for sunset photos in Bali is on the beach: whether that is in Kuta, Legian or Seminyak. I have also heard the sunsets at Tanah Lot Temple are worthwhile. I captured this photo a few years ago but it is still a favourite. I love that the sun saturates the photo with beautiful colour.
San Diego: USA
I have to finish with another West Coast sunset, because they are simply the best in my opinion. This sunset photo is from the Ocean Beach Pier. But seeing as San Diego is all beaches, I think there are probably plenty of places to capture that perfect sunset shot.
I Love Sunset Photos
Sunsets provide fantastic and memorable moments to photograph. If only I was a morning person I would do a sunrise photo shoot next.
