This I am back in my home town of Townsville for the wonderful Horseshoe Bay Markets. I always end up their on Sundays when I am visiting my parents. This is because my dad actually sings and plays guitar as the market’s entertainment twice a month. I know, he’s a rockstar.
Horseshoe Bay Markets
The stalls are set up on the foreshore with a backdrop of palm trees and the still blue ocean. Not bad at all if I don’t say so myself! During the holidays they are usually quite busy with tourist and locals alike enjoying the outdoors and Horseshoe Bay in general. The unique aspect of the Horseshoe Bay Markets is that everything for sale is created on Magnetic island. There is hand-crafted jewellery and a lot of handmade clothes perfect to wear on a summer’s day in the tropics. Visitors can purchase beautiful photos and paintings of the surroundings that make great souvenirs. There are also sometimes island-grown fruit and vegetables for sale. There are always new stalls popping up regularly, so who knows what you may discover?

Weave through the stalls and check out the many trinkets on sale. Then you can walk ten steps to the beach to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach at Horseshoe Bay. Or hey, why not relax and get a massage instead? I am always in favour of reading the Sunday newspaper under the palm tree. Then getting a gelato from the local Italian family, because it is authentically AWESOME.
So if you find yourself on Magnetic Island on the weekend, make sure you see if the Horseshoe Bay Markets are on. It runs from 9:00am – 2:00pm. Visitors can get a bus from the ferry directly over the hill to the bay. Or perhaps you will hire one of the island’s famous Barbie cars? The choice is yours.
