Welcome to a new segment on Hayley on Holiday. As a new Melbourne resident, I haven’t gotten out to see and do as much around here as I would like. So each month I am going to compile a list of events I want to check out in Melbourne. I will let you know the following month how many I attended. I hope this inspires other Melbourne locals to step out and experience something different each month in this beautiful city we live in. On to Melbourne events in August 2015.
Trailer Park at The Village
When & Where: Every Saturday and Sunday in August from 12 to 8pm | 557 St Kilda Road
Visit: The Facebook Page for truck information
We all know I love a good food truck. Each weekend in August at this Trailer Park there is a different theme: North America, Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Guests then choose their favourites for the final weekend. What a great concept.
When & Where: 13 to 23 August 2015 | across City of Stonnington
Visit: Glow Festival
This is the Glow Festival’s second year. It is about celebrating the artistic communities in Prahran, Malvern, Armadale, Toorak, Windsor and South Yarra. It also means ice-skating in Prahran. Plus free music every night at the Cato Street Car Park. Perhaps you are more of a Flicks + Feast person? There are also comedy performances happening at the Chapel Off Chapel during the second weekend. There is something for everyone at the Glow Festival.
Melbourne Writers Festival
When & Where: 20 to 30 August 2015 | Various locations
Visit: Melbourne Writers Festival
I am looking forward to attending the festival, as a writer and a reader. There are free and ticketed events across the 10 days. I did some initial research and discovered Liane Moriaty (New York Times Bestseller and Aussie) is going to be visiting. I also just bought my ticket to see Rob Thomas, who is the mastermind behind Veronica Mars and iZombie. I loved Veronica Mars so I am interested to hear from the creator. Check out the website for more information on the many events.
National Op Shop Week
When & Where: 23 to 30 August 2015 | Various
Visit: National Op Shop Week
I haven’t actually been op shopping since moving to Melbourne. This weeks seems like the perfect excuse to get out and find myself a bargain. It is also a great time to sort through your closet and donate unwanted clothing to your local op shop.
When & Where: 30 August 2015 & Various locations
Visit: Melbourne Day
I did not think Melbourne Day would be on my list of Melbourne events in August 2015. But apparently this year we are celebrating Melbourne’s 180th birthday. She’s looking good. There is a free concert in my neighbourhood, Docklands and Daryl Braithwaite is the headliner. There is also a flag raising ceremony, discounted tours and more.
More Melbourne Events in August 2015
