This monthly memo is to inspire myself and other Melbourne residents to get out, explore and perhaps experience something different each month in this beautiful city we call home.
The scary thing about this list is that it includes a Christmas activity. Christmas, people. Yikes. Here are the best Melbourne events in November 2015. I am particularly looking forward to checking out some . You know I love ’em. Plus having another public holiday for a horse race is pretty sweet.
Melbourne Cup Carnival
When & Where: Various dates throughout November at Flemington Racecourse
Visit: Melbourne Cup Carnival
I already have a ticket secured for Ladies Day (officially known as Crown Oaks Day). Even though I am soo not a gambler, I love the fashion and people watching involved in the races. It’s a great chance to get dressed up, put something unusual in your hair and day drink. There is also a Melbourne Cup Parade happening on Monday 2 November in the city. Plus the public holiday on Tuesday 3 November for Melbourne Cup. Booyah!
Yarra Valley Strawberry Festival
When & Where: Saturday 8 November from 10 to 4 at St Patrick’s Primary School, Lilydale
Visit: YV Strawberry Festival
Although I probably won’t attend this festival, I think a day celebrating strawberries and the beginning of strawberry picking season is pretty cool. Be prepared for strawberry-flavoured everything, plus free entertainment, rides and markets. There are strawberry showbags to take home, or perhaps you could try your luck in the strawberry eating competition.
Taste of Melbourne
When & Where: 12 to 15 November at Albert Park
Visit: Taste of Melbourne
“Taste of Melbourne operates much like a restaurant with lunch and dinner services. There are 6 sessions running over the 4 days. Each lasts between 4 – 5 hours to give you time to enjoy your pick of 50 restaurant dishes, browse the artisan producer stalls and enjoy the many culinary attractions,” the website states. Melbourne’s best restaurants will be serving up, so if you are a foodie this is the place for you.
The Night Noodle Markets
When & Where: 12 to 29 November at Birrarung Marr
Visit: Good Food Month
Speaking of food, this market offers 56 stalls of deliciousness. The Night Noodle Markets are free and will happen every night during the dates specified, lighting up the banks of the Yarra River. There are also three bars and a VIP area for people wanting to go that extra mile.
Melbourne Music Week
When & Where: 13 to 20 November at various locations
Visit: That’s Melbourne
There are plenty of events happening day and night during Melbourne’s Music Week. Some are free while others cost, and the flagship venue is the former Royal Women’s Hospital. 240 local and international artists will feature during the massive week of celebrations.
Hispanic Latin American Festival
When & Where: From midday on 21 and 22 November along Johnston Street, Fitzroy
Visit: Hispanic Fiesta
Now in its 37th year, this festival is all about dancing in the middle of the street. Along with food stalls there are free dancing classes and DJs and live entertainment all day.
When & Where: Sunday 22 November from 10 to 2pm at 31-41 Elizabeth Street, Bayswater
This German Christmas Market is organised by a local aged care home and all funds raised goes back to the facility. There are handcrafted items, German food (pretzels and sausages galore), a beer garden and live music.
Etsy Made Local Melbourne Market
When & Where: Saturday 28 November at Rupert on Rupert, Collingwood
Visit: Etsy Made Local Melbourne
This market features the work of many independent and local Etsy sellers. There will be jewellery and arts and crafts galore for sale. Plus, it’s kind of a two for one deal, as you get a market and also get the chance to enjoy the food at Rupert on Rupert.
What a wrap of the best Melbourne events in November 2015. I’m excited for all the food and all the fun.
