My second Australian-themed post for the week, following this beauty. I thought it would be fun to look at the places on my Australia bucket list. Places I really really want to visit! Some of my oversights will probably shock you, but I will get to these places. One day… road trip, anyone?
This is the big one on my Australia bucket list. I have been to the Northern Territory a few times, but my family never visited Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock). I’ve heard it isn’t a cheap destination to visit, but I do want to see it up close for myself. Fun fact: back in the day, my mum climbed Uluru during a school trip in the 70s. My school camps were never that cool.
I know, I know. I even grew up in Queensland, so I don’t have an excuse for this one. But whenever I read East Coast itineraries, Fraser Island is always included, and I’ve never been. It’s also a World Heritage Site AND the largest sand island in the world, and I’ve never seen it. Shame, Hayley.

South Australia is not only my last state, but Adelaide is my final capital city to visit as well. I definitely think a long weekend trip is going to be in the works when I return to Australia. I mean, the city has cool neighbourhoods, river walks and a beach. Sounds awesome to me!

I’ve basically never seen a bad photo of the Blue Mountains, and it seems like such a good weekend break from Sydney. These are the two simple reasons I want to visit.
I mean, look at that water! Do I even need to explain why I want to visit Rottnest Island? I have actually visited the island once, when my family lived in Western Australia. I remember the quokkas, the cutest animals that call the island home, but that’s about it. I don’t remember beaches looking this good. I think it’s time I revisited WA, anyway.

This is one of the big oversights. Beautiful Byron Bay. I wanted to visit when I lived in Brisbane, but this never happened. Plus, if Chris Hemsworth calls it home when he’s in Australia, I need to get there, stat.

Tasmanian Road Trip
I am putting the whole of Tasmania on my Australia bucket list because it’s a small enough island state that you could easily do a week road trip and see most of the sights. Some of the places I want to go: Bridestowe Estate’s Lavender Fields, Bay of Fire, Wineglass Bay at Freycinet National Park, Launceston and Port Arthur. Just to name a few… I also wouldn’t mind returning to Hobart.

Norfolk Island has always seemed kind of mysterious to me. I mean, it’s part of Australia, but you rarely hear much information about it growing up. I’m very curious to explore it myself and see if it’s as charming as I believe it to be.
This was a big oversight when I lived in Melbourne. I saw the coast on the other side of the city, along the Great Ocean Road, but didn’t visit the Mornington Peninsula. I have heard about it though: its excellent small towns, beautiful beaches and wineries. The places I want to visit include Dromana Beach, Sorrento and Mount Martha’s cute bathhouses.
So there you have it. Nine places I really want to visit in Australia. Writing this post actually made me realise I’ve visited a lot of Australia’s highlights. But there are always more beaches and country towns to explore.
