Howdy readers! Well, I have made it over eight months being away from home AND an expat. The weeks are passing by in a blur between work and play, so here is a wrap of what has happened since my last update.
Christmas/New Years
Christmas already seems like such a long time ago, yet it has been just over a month since my fun overnight trip to Whistler. It was a perfect white Christmas.
Then I had a day of unpacking and repacking as I took off for four nights in Seattle. I am really glad I finally got the chance to visit as I have heard so much about the city from friends in Vancouver and, of course, working at Starbucks. The city definitely had a fun vibe, awesome markets and a beautiful waterfront. Blog posts coming up, I promise!
I got the bus back from Seattle to ring in the new year with my fabulous workmates.
January
This month I tried and failed to save some money after my festive season splurge. Whoops. Maybe February right? With my Aussie expat friends we decided to visit Mount Seymour to celebrate a birthday (not me, that’s this month!) We had lunch, went for a walk in the snow, and tubing. This was our first time and I loved the thrill of sliding down the snow. It seemed like a popular spot the day we went, and a must-visit whilst in Vancouver.
The following weekend my food truck was a part of the Street Food Festival, an initiative of the very-popular Dine Out Vancouver Festival. It was a crazy four days that included me adding a few fellow trucks to my Around Vancouver in 80 Eats challenge AND it just happened to end on Australia Day. I celebrated the whole weekend (why not right?) by spending the Saturday night at Moose’s Down Under and listening to my favourite music countdown, the Hottest 100. Then having fun in the truck with my fellow Aussies selling a lot of pies to fellow expats and Canadians alike. It was one of the best Australia Days I’ve had in a while.
Although the weather isn’t warming up yet – it’s actually getting colder this week – I am still enjoying my time in Vancouver. I am super excited this month to celebrate my birthday with great friends in a great city. I don’t know if I will still be here for my birthday next year so I better make it count.
