Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Birthday, continued. Following on from last week’s birthday edition, I spent my birthday afternoon watching La La Land and then having dinner and the best dessert EVER with my bestie. I’m glad I finally saw La La Land, but it wasn’t the best movie I’ve seen lately. I do love Emma Stone, but the storyline just didn’t blow me away.
For dinner we went to the West End, an area I don’t frequent very often, even though it’s right next to the city centre. We went to Buckstop, which is a small and cosy eatery with a lot of barbecue items on the menu. They also had small plate items, like a grilled cheese sandwich and hush puppies, which were perfect for us seeing as our next stop was Cacao 70.
I had seen a photo or two on Instagram and knew I had to visit this chocolate heaven. The menu was so long and featured waffles, chocolate pizzas, fondue, s’mores, ice-cream, and a lot of different hot chocolate varieties. We decided to try the sampler, which gave us a taste of a lot of the menu items. The highlight was definitely the s’mores and fondue chocolate. YUM. It was the perfect way to celebrate a sweet tooth’s birthday.
♥ Snow is back, back again. I was hoping March would bring a little bit warmer weather. But as I type this I am looking outside and seeing snow fall. Guess I have to wait another month to say goodbye to my puffer jacket.
♥ Co-working. As I mentioned last week, I started going to a co-working space. I only focus on my Culture Trip work when I’m there and allow myself to relax when I get home. I’m happy with the progress I made, so I’ll definitely be heading back this week.
♥ Holidays. Oh yes, I’ve booked another holiday to the US for next month. YOLO, right? With two of my best friends here, we’re heading to LA the week before Easter, and then on Good Friday I’ll be flying onto Portland for a weekend visit, before returning to Vancouver on Easter Monday. It’s going to be a week of fun in the sun!
♥ FriYAY. On Friday, with the same friends I’m going on holidays with, we did brunch at Jam Cafe before heading to the mountains. It was raining in Vancouver when we left, so when we got up Mount Seymour it was snowing pretty heavily. We wanted to go tubing, but unfortunately we had to wait for the slides to open because of the snowy conditions.
In the meantime, we waited in the lodge and then a staff member came over and gave us free tobogganing passes until the tubing opened. I’ve been tubing but not tobogganing, and I have to say it was a lot of fun sliding down a snowy mountain on a piece of plastic. We raced, tried to slide down together, and took a lot of snowy boomerangs on Insta. We then decided to just head home and skip tubing, so it was a cheap outing.
♥ Sweet experience #2. After freezing on the mountain, we decided to treat ourselves to some ice cream, as you do. I finally got to check out La Casa Gelato and its 238 flavours. I definitely preferred the chocolate base to the vanilla, as it was a lot smoother. I got chocolate macadamia and was very happy with my decision.
♥ TV. I didn’t watch a lot last week, but I did watch the big Chicago crossover, between Fire, PD and Justice. I also caught up on Reign. I did enjoy this show in the beginning, but once they killed off one of the main characters, it hasn’t been the same.
Next week, there will be new Hawaii content on the blog. I’m also working hard to save for HOLIDAYS!
