Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Books: I actually finished two books this week. I also downloaded quite a few to read on the beach in HAWAII. Oh yes, I’m getting excited. The first book I mentioned last week was The Girl You Left Behind. For people who like historical fiction, I do recommend this novel. However, I did feel it was a bit long and the story dragged in some places. The second novel was I Take You. This was not your usual chick lit, but that’s why I liked it. Make sure you’re following along on Goodreads and pass on all recommendations.
♥ New posts: I got organised and published two posts last week, which were both Australian-focused. #1 was a lot of fun to put together, as I went through all of my photos and found 20 favourites to inspire other people to visit my beautiful home country. The second post featured the places I still really need to visit in Australia.
♥ Dine Out: Dine Out Vancouver Festival is a very cool initiative. Basically, restaurants all over the Greater Vancouver area prepare a ‘Dine Out’ menu and you can choose from two to three dishes for each course (usually three). It’s a great idea to have it in January, when everyone is feeling the winter blues. It’s best to reserve places weeks in advance though, as some popular restaurants fill up quickly.
Anyway, my friends and I went to Fable on Monday night and it was really good. The staff were friendly and dinner was my favourite course. They served paella and I was pleasantly surprised at the decent serving size and amount of meat with the dish. Fable has a good reputation in Vancouver, and I love when I can say the food lives up to the hype.
♥ Street Food City: Another part of Dine Out is Street Food City, which I worked at during the week. 10 or so food trucks parked in the city centre and served lunch all week and weekend. It was busy, but I got to also sample a lot of different food trucks, which is obviously the best part of the job. Highlight? A fish burrito from my favourite, Tacofino. Those guys should pay me to do their marketing, am I right? Seriously though, the burrito was better than the taco!
♥ Australia Day: During Street Food City, we celebrated Australia Day on the food truck and it was a lot of fun. We served kangaroo, gave away free ANZAC biscuits to Aussies only AND I was interviewed for the radio. That’s how you step out of your comfort zone.
♥ Hottest 100: This countdown is honestly the best part of Australia Day. Listening to the best music of the year and finding new artists to follow. I was so happy Flume took the number one spot, because a) he’s Aussie and b) this song was hands down my favourite from last year. Followed closely by Lapsley’s Hurt Me.
♥ New shows: Yeah, because I really need another TV show to become addicted to. But, I did watch the premiere of Riverdale, which was also shot in Vancouver, and my friend and I kind of dug it. We shall see where it takes us!
This week features another Dine Out menu tasting, or two!
