Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Life. The weeks just seem to be zooming by these days, in a blur of work and writing. Last week I worked two concerts (Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar), did three shifts on the food truck, wrote 2 blog posts and completed 5 articles for The Culture Trip. When you write it out like that, it was a pretty productive week! My friends attended Lady Gaga’s concert and said she was amazing! Her stage alone looked intense.
♥ Writing. I wrote an interesting article for The Culture Trip about Gros Morne National Park becoming autism friendly. I also loved researching some lesser-known music festivals across Canada. There are so many good ones!
♥ Eating. I made my favourite vegetarian slow-cooker Mexican quinoa last week, which is just the best with melted cheese on top and some baby spinach. We also went back to Tacofino, because it had been over two months between fish tacos and I was having withdrawals. We followed taco time with ice cream at La Casa Gelato. I got their chocolate Snickers flavour, and it was as good as it sounds. It’s a good novelty place to take visitors in Vancouver, as there are too many flavours to choose from (over 200 in fact).
I am also enjoying some fresh (and free) local cherries, thanks to a trade at the farmer’s market over the weekend. AND my bestie let me try two of his delicious cupcake creations this week. He is GOOD.
♥ Blogging. I published an article for IHG last week about the places on my Texas bucket list. I also posted about my favourite places to eat dessert in Portland. It’s a hard job, but someone has to try the city’s best donuts and cupcakes ;)
♥ Haze for days. There have been some large wildfires in inland British Columbia, and the smoke has basically coated the Pacific Northwest Region in a haze for nearly a week now. The smoky sky has made the sun glow on occasion, so it looks like golden hour all day. I’m missing actually seeing the sky, but I know the people inland have it worse off than us.
♥ Watching. I caught up on the TV series, Younger last week, because my old housemate told me to. The episodes are short, the cast is great, and it’s just a fun, easy to watch show. I also started to watch Travelers, at the insistence of my old boss. It features Eric McCormack (aka Will in Will and Grace), and it’s filmed in Vancouver. It’s about these people who travel from the future and inhabit the bodies of people in the present, while completing missions to save humanity. I’m not usually a big sci-fi fan, but there’s just something about this show that has me hooked. Season 1 is on Netflix now, and they just wrapped filming of season 2.
♥ Reading. I didn’t know if I was going to finish a book last week, but thanks to a lot of time on buses, I finished reading Modern Lovers last night. It was a different story, chronicling the lives of two families in New York City one summer. I originally picked it up because I enjoyed the author’s writing style in her other novel, The Vacationers. She has a way of making both 50 year olds and teenagers relatable. Next up is another Liane Moriarty book, because the Australian author is addictive and I love supporting Australians.
As for reading on the web, I haven’t been able to look away from the story about the kid in Melbourne whose feet wouldn’t stop bleeding after he waded into the ocean. Turns out it was sea fleas. I mean, Australia, why you gotta be so weird and deadly? If you’re squeamish, maybe don’t click the link!
This week is a lot of work and a little play.
