Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Sunshine! On Thursday we had a day where the temperature actually climbed over 20°C. The sun was shining and man it felt good to be outside and walking around without a jacket. It made me SO excited for summer. We are definitely getting less rainy days. About time, Raincouver!
♥ New Post. I didn’t have a big working week, so I told myself I was going to complete four blog posts. Challenge accomplished! Expect a post on Portland this Thursday, but catch up on my where to eat in LA post first. Don’t read it on an empty stomach though.
♥ Eats. I didn’t do a lot of eating out, but I DID visit Chipotle (my favourite) during the week. We also checked out a new brunch place, which opened two blocks from my house: The Gray Olive Cafeteria. I had seen photos on Instagram and knew I needed to try it. I had their Kitchen Sink, which was like a deconstructed omelette (a.k.a delicious). But my friend had the Chicken and Waffles and it was insanely good. There isn’t a lot of seating inside, but there was quick service and the dishes were reasonably priced.
♥ Books. For the past two weeks I’ve picked up “speed reads” at the library, which means I have to finish the book in a week. It’s made me do a lot more reading on the bus and at home to get the books completed, which is a good thing. My latest speed read was Anna Kendrick’s memoir, Scrappy Little Nobody. It was an easy, insightful and hilarious read. She takes you behind-the-scenes on many of her movies, which is interesting for a film addict like me. Are we friends on Goodreads yet?
♥ Inspiration. I wanted to give a shoutout to my grandad, who I call Pappy. He turned 84 this year and went on his own solo journey last week to Canberra, Australia’s capital city. He saw the big tourist attractions, stayed in an Airbnb AND took carry-on only. I’m so proud of him and he said the trip was very worthwhile. He’s one of my loyal readers, so thanks for supporting me Pappy! Hayley on Holiday: inspiring solo travellers from 18 to 84 ;)
♥ TV. I finished two Netflix series this week: 13 Reasons Why and Girlboss. I am glad I finished the former, but it was hard to get through the last episodes. I commend the producers though, as it was an extremely well done series on a very serious topic. Girlboss was not what I expected, as the main character was hard to like a lot of the time. But it had its funny, and girl power, moments.
♥ Views. I worked in North Vancouver on Friday night, and it is seriously one of the most photogenic spots in the city. There happened to be this beautiful ship from Colombia pulled into the harbour, which made the view even more impressive. I highly recommend taking the Seabus over to Lonsdale Quay when visiting Vancouver.
♥ Morning walks. Now that the weather is being more pleasant, I’ve been trying to go on more walks around my neighbourhood. I went on Saturday morning before brunch and it was the perfect way to start the day. I also live in a pretty hilly area, which instantly makes it a good workout.
This week is all about work, for now!
