Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Quiet around here. You may have noticed I didn’t publish a Hayley Lately post last week. Truthfully, I just ran out of time. I wanted to get all of my work completed prior to leaving on my holiday, and that didn’t leave time for much else. I am currently typing this update from my hostel common area in Portland, but there’s lots to share!
♥ Portland. To begin, I arrived in Portland late Friday night and I leave today to head back to Vancouver. It’s a short, but very sweet visit to one of my favourite cities. Seriously, Portland just has a cool vibe. I’m literally already brainstorming a post about all the reasons I love Portland. It’s going to be long ;) I’ve checked out two new-to-me neighbourhoods: the Hawthorne District and NW 23rd Avenue. I’ve also been to the markets, eaten Voodoo Doughnuts (of course) and meandered my way through the downtown area.
♥ Books. I finished one book prior to leaving, and one book on holiday! Thanks to all that beach time, I finally completed the fourth Outlander book, Drums of Autumn. It may be my favourite yet, as it focused equally on the two main characters, as well as their daughter and her partner. I liked the introduction of new characters to spice things up. This is still an excellent series, but I might wait a little while to begin reading book five. I also read the first novel in the Queen of the Tearling fantasy series. This book was a little different from my usual young adult reads, but knowing me I’ll continue to read them all.
♥ City of Stars. I had four days in LA with two of my Canadian besties. It was honestly weird travelling with people after being solo for so long, but we had an unforgettable trip together. I loved doing things I normally wouldn’t do when travelling solo, like Ubering to different areas (this is usually too expensive when alone) and experiencing LA after dark. We checked out Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Downtown LA, West Hollywood, Hollywood and Griffith Observatory. I can’t wait to write all about it!
♥ Sunshine. I had to mention that I got my Vitamin D fix in LA, so I won’t complain about the rainy days waiting for me back home. The weather was absolutely perfect every day. Not too hot and not too cold. I still managed to get sunburnt on my shoulders and face though. My nose is a delightful Rudolph shade of red. Portland was also sunny and beautiful on Saturday.
♥ Eats. We ate A LOT of good food in LA. I may even just do a post on all the delicious things we ate on our trip. But back in Vancouver, I went out twice the week before we left. Our taco-addicted selves checked out a different Mexican restaurant. Sal y Limon does tacos for about $2.75, and there were some good flavours. The highlight for me was the pulled pork. We also went to Biercraft on Commercial Drive for dinner and drinks on Friday night. I somehow hadn’t made it back to The Drive since returning to Vancouver (who am I?).
♥ Watching. I haven’t watched a lot of new TV in the last two weeks. I am about five episodes into 13 Reasons Why, which is definitely the most talked about TV show right now. I also want to finish watching Big Little Lies. But I think writing is going to take priority over TV for the rest of the week!
I have nothing prepared this week except for a lot of catch-up work!
