Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Chill. Last week was pretty chill around here. I only had one work shift, so spent the rest of the week writing, getting smashed in gym classes and watching a lot of Netflix. More on that below.
♥ Eats. I was pretty good last week and only went out once for dinner and dessert. It had been about a month between Tacofino visits, so we had to get our taco fix on Thursday. We followed this with ice-cream from Earnest. Below is a single scoop of cookies and cream. I think I got just a little lucky.
♥ Books. I finished The Hopefuls last week, and it was a pretty disappointing read. The “conflict” part that’s in every book came way too late in the novel, so the story just seemed to lag for a long time. I know it is a below-three-stars read if I’m skimming pages. It did have a lot of potential though, as it was set in DC during the Obama administration. Next is a new fantasy series: The Queen of the Tearling. I’ve seen mixed reviews for this one, so we shall see which way I lean.
♥ New posts. I published a post on Wanderful last week, which is a great website, resource and network for women travellers. I think what they’re doing is fantastic, so I was happy to share their story on the blog. I do still have some free one year memberships to giveaway. Comment below if you’re interested.
♥ Cooking. I’m one of those people that just doesn’t really enjoy cooking, and I end up cooking the same pasta dishes quite regularly. But I tried this recipe last week, with a couple of tweaks, and it’s delicious. It also gives me a lot of leftovers. Bonus! I only just realised how good quinoa is, and I’m now firmly on the bandwagon. Just a few years late…
♥ Planning. I spent an hour or two yesterday doing some LA trip planning. We basically have four full days of exploration, so we’ve been writing down where to eat (a very extensive list already) and what we want to do. My priorities include riding between Venice and Santa Monica, visiting the Griffith Observatory, and seeing Beauty and the Beast at El Capitan! I may be most excited about the last activity ;) I’ve been listening to too much Disney music lately.
♥ Watching. As I mentioned, I’ve watched quite a few movies this past week. Two of them were lame dance movies (looking at you Step Up: All In and High Strung). One of them was good for a laugh: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. And one I surprisingly enjoyed: XOXO, a Netflix original. I also finished This Is Us, and agree with the rest of the world that the finale was a serious letdown. But they have another two seasons to make up for it.
This is a working week, with three jobs on the agenda. But two weeks until LA and Portland!
