Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each Monday, this is where I share some happy moments from the previous week: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and done in beautiful Vancouver.
♥ Eclipsing. This time last week I was at home trying not to stare at the eclipse as I didn’t have the proper glasses. Vancouver didn’t get as dark as some places, but it definitely felt gloomy, even though there was a bright blue sky. It was cool to see people’s photos and videos afterwards too.
♥ Reading. I finished The Sun is also a Star, which is a YA novel that focuses on one defining day in the lives of two New York teenagers. It’s very well-written and I loved that the book’s protagonists were a Korean-American boy and Jamaican-American girl. It discussed deportation, cultural expectations, racism and more. It’s an easy read, so I highly recommend. I am now reading two books (again), which I hope to finish by this time next week!
♥ Writing. I wrote two wedding-themed posts for The Culture Trip last week. Some of the images I was sent make a winter wedding look all kinds of beautiful. Here are the top winter wedding destinations in Canada and the best wedding venues.
♥ Baseballing. My friends and I went to a Vancouver Canadians baseball game last week (thanks Adam for the free tickets!). They play at a small stadium with conventional grandstand bench seating, and they seem to draw a sold out crowd on the regular. The atmosphere was great, and I don’t mind watching baseball. It’s a lot faster than some sports (NFL and cricket, no thanks). When I was in high school my brother actually played baseball, so I spent quite a few weekends reading books watching him play.
♥ Watching. I finished watching Bones and Stitchers last week. Completing Bones made me think I should start watching another long-running series like Law and Order: SVU. I also caught up on a new TV show called The Bold Type, which follows three 20-something best friends who work in different departments at the same magazine. Highly recommend. I think next I’m going to tackle Designated Survivor.
♥ Escaping. Guys, I think I’m an escape room lucky charm. I usually don’t do much inside the rooms (ha!), but in three visits we’ve escaped every time. Last week’s room was called Death Trap, and it has a 3% success rate. We finished with 35 seconds left on the clock (you get an hour). I’d definitely check for Groupons in your area, as it’s an interesting, fun and unique way to spend time with friends.
♥ Blogging. I know, no new blog post last week. Work got in the way and I just ran out of time. But one of my goals this week is to establish a blog editorial calendar. I’m going to write down post ideas for the next month or so and then I’ll start typing! If you have any suggestions, let me know.
♥ Eating. After work on Saturday I did treat myself to a Tacofino fish burrito, because the weeks are winding down and I need to get my taco fix before I leave. While in Richmond for the escape game, we had a late-night snack at Pearl Castle Cafe too. I just had a bowl of their fried chicken nuggets, which were delicious. But my friend had the hotpot and it was like a never-ending bowl of deliciousness.
♥ Planning. I am still slowly planning my trip. Last week I was doing some Ireland research. Right now, I am thinking I will go from Dublin – Cork – Galway – Belfast and then onwards to Scotland. It’s one of the countries I’m most excited to FINALLY visit.
The week ahead is full of empty days, so I hope to be very productive!
