Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Each month, this is where I chat about my life and what I’ve been up to in Melbourne. Keep reading to discover the book I couldn’t put down, my new favourite show and the best Melbourne eats.
LIFE LATELY
June was HECTIC, there’s no other way about it. I worked, found someone to rent my room (thankfully), packed and took a trip to the Sunshine Coast (that’s all). I was exhausted by the time July came around, but now I’m typing this from my parents’ place, where I’ll be for the next few weeks. But let’s rewind and have a look at what I got up to in June.
At the museum I worked at Nocturnal, which was a nonstop night filled with jazz music. It’s a fun night out if you’re ever in Melbourne on the first Friday of the month. I also spent a lot of time travelling across Melbourne to take photos for the travel app I’ve been contributing to. Although I loved being able to tick so many places off my Melbourne bucket list, Melbourne is a big city and it was slightly overwhelming taking photos of so many attractions.
Another memorable moment thrown into the mix was flying to the Sunshine Coast for my best friend from uni’s wedding in Maleny. It was a lovely night and a beautiful wedding, with the most amazing Glasshouse Mountain views. I’m so glad I was able to be there and I got to stay and spend time with my extended family as well. Along with my parents, we also visited a few different places on the coast, like Noosa, Maroochydore, Maleny and more.
It’s no wonder June exhausted me, hey?! 😂😩
EATING LATELY
To celebrate finishing my last day of work, I finally went with a couple of coworkers to Shanghai Village. A popular BYO restaurant in Chinatown, you must try the pumpkin pastry. We then followed this with a delicious treat from San Churro. I went out for drinks at Asian Beer Cafe with my Marvel workmates after my last shift there as well. $14 jugs of cider – what more could you want?
BLOGGING LATELY
Fortunately, I was productive on the blog front in May and had scheduled a couple of posts to go live in June. But this is the first post in nearly three weeks! In case you missed them, I published my food and drink recommendations for Wellington, my ultimate Auckland travel guide and a life update.
READING LATELY
I spent most of the month reading one of the big books in the Outlander series (which I technically finished in July). But I also read two cute romance novels: Secret Things and Highland Flings and Our Stop. I really enjoyed the latter – the characters and the storyline kept me reading long past my bedtime. It’s definitely one of the best romance novels I’ve read this year so far.
(I received advanced reader copies of both these books thanks to NetGalley).
WATCHING LATELY
I actually didn’t watch a lot in June. I focused on finishing the second season of S.W.A.T. and loved Always Be My Maybe on Netflix. Equal parts romance and comedy = the perfect movie.
July is going to be a quiet month in Townsville with a lot of screen time, as I need to do a lot of holiday planning!
