Here are some of the best places to visit in New England.
New England, for us non-Americans, is in the country’s northeasterly region and includes states such as Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. It’s a beautiful area of the United States, which is popular in all seasons. There are many towns and cities that encompass New England, so here are just five you might consider visiting the next time you want to explore New England.
5 places to visit in New England
Newport, Rhode Island
The jewel in Rhode Island’s crown, Newport has been attracting thousands of people to its shores every summer since the 20th century. As is expected, accommodation prices increase a lot over summer, and during holiday weekends. To save on costs, it’s recommended visitors check out Newport in either spring or fall. One of the best stays in town is definitely OceanCliff Hotel & Resorts, which is located in a beautiful waterside manor.
East Elmhurst, New York
Another neighbourhood bordering an airport (LaGuardia), East Elmhurst is located in the Queens borough. It is found just across the East River from Upper Manhattan, so it is a perfect location for seeing all of the New York City sights. The Landing at LaGuardia has great room rates and excellent included extras for guests. These include a free shuttle to and from the airport, complimentary breakfast, fitness centre and free Wi-Fi. There is also a cocktail lounge onsite for unwinding after a day out in the city.
Braintree, Massachusetts
Braintree is located just south of Boston in Massachusetts. When researching accommodation options in Braintree, look at some of America’s best hotel chains, including Holiday Inn, Motel 6, Hyatt and Hampton Inn. Hyatt Place Boston/Braintree is just 10 miles from Boston city centre and next door to the South Shore Plaza. The hotel boasts a free area shuttle, complimentary breakfast, and an indoor and outdoor pool.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Known as the City of Bridges, Pittsburgh is Pennsylvania’s second-largest city and the birthplace of the emoticon. Thanks to the revitalisation of the city’s downtown area, Pittsburgh has seen a steady increase in visitors. Accommodation along the Ohio River, which runs through the city, is your best choice. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites is located on Pittsburgh’s South Side, directly on the water. From the hotel, guests can easily visit Rivers Casino, some of Pittsburgh’s best shopping areas, PNC Park, and Heinz Field (the home of the Steelers).
Newark, New Jersey
The main attraction in Newark may just be its international airport, but there is more to the city. It’s located not far from New York’s Manhattan island, which means visitors get more bang for their buck when it comes to accommodation. There are plenty of hotels near the airport, but budget travellers should check out the YMCA of Newark & Vicinity. It offers dormitory beds with a shared bathroom, plus private standard and double rooms. Guests are able to use the YMCA’s sporting facilities too.
These are just five cities in the New England region of the United States that are ready to host you on your next escape.
