Best Way to Get from Bali Airport to Sanur
The best way to get from Bali Airport to Sanur is by private airport transfer. It’s affordable, reliable, and takes the hassle out of negotiating with drivers after a long flight. You can book ahead online, have someone waiting for you, and be at your hotel in 30 to 40 minutes. If you prefer, you can also book through Booking.com’s airport taxi service for a similar experience.

How far is Sanur from Bali Airport?

Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar Airport) is located about 15 km from Sanur. Travel time depends on traffic. I’d say it’s on average 30 minutes, but up to 45 minutes if the roads are busy. You’ll come to learn how unpredictable Bali traffic can be, so it’s always worth allowing extra time, especially in the evening.

How to get from Bali Airport to Sanur

Here are the five main ways to get from Bali Airport to Sanur.

The private airport transfer my friend and I got in Bali last year 😂. What a welcome!

1. Private airport transfer (best overall option)

If you want the simplest and most dependable option, this is it. A private airport transfer means your friendly, English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. They assist with your luggage and drive you directly to your accommodation in Sanur in a comfortable, air-conditioned SUV.

Why this is the best option:

  • No waiting or negotiating
  • Fixed rate with no surprises
  • Air-conditioned vehicle with a professional driver
  • Ideal after long flights

Typical cost: $10 to $20 AUD

This is the option most travellers pick, especially for a first visit to Bali. It can be overwhelming when you enter the arrivals hall and are greeted by a crowd of drivers holding signs. Having everything organised will instantly put you at ease (trust me).

You can also use Booking.com’s airport taxi service if you prefer a platform you already trust. This is what I personally use, and it cost me less than $10 AUD to get from Bali Airport to Sanur in 2026. Your driver communicates with you via WhatsApp, telling you exactly where he’s waiting in the arrivals area. Australia would never 😂.

2. Rideshare apps (Grab or Gojek)

Rideshare apps like Grab and Gojek operate in Bali (the island’s Uber alternative). If you use Grab, there’s a designated Grab Lounge at Bali Airport. Follow these step-by-step directions to locate the lounge, where you can wait for your ride in air-conditioned comfort. You can also book your ride with the staff’s help using the free WiFi. Staff will direct you to the pickup point when your ride arrives.

Gojek offers a similar service, without the lounge. But they have a designated pickup area with staff available to assist. Here’s Gojek’s tips for airport transfers.

Typical cost: $8 to $15 AUD

Grab is often cheaper than a taxi but a similar price to a private transfer. If you’re happy to navigate the app when you arrive, I recommend this option. I’m just lazy and like everything prepared in advance because I want to start my Bali holiday ASAP 😅. I regularly use Grab to get from Sanur to Bali Airport, but not the other way around.

One thing to note is that your rideshare driver might ask if you want to pay the ~$1 AUD fee to take the toll road from Bali Airport to Sanur. It’s completely optional and usually only saves about 5 minutes, depending on traffic, so you can say yes or no. I find private transfers just take the road without asking.

3. Taxi from Bali Airport

Taxis are easy to find at the airport, but they’re not always the smoothest experience. There’s an official taxi counter where you can prepay for your ride, helping avoid scams.

Things to know:

  • Slightly more expensive than pre-booking
  • Can involve waiting in line
  • Less predictable experience

Typical cost: $15 to $25 AUD

If you go this route, always use the official airport taxi counter inside the airport’s arrivals area, near the main exit doors. You simply request a taxi, settle on the price, and the staff find you a driver. No negotiating needed.

How much is a taxi from Bali Airport to Sanur? It typically costs 150 to 250,000 IDR ($15 to $25 AUD) for a taxi from Bali Airport to Sanur.

4. Hotel transfers

Some hotels in Sanur offer an airport shuttle service. It might be free or more expensive than a private transfer, depending on the accommodation. Always check before booking a transfer separately, in case you can get a good deal.

5. Random drivers at Bali Airport

When you walk through Bali Airport, you’ll likely be approached repeatedly by drivers offering private transfers. If you have the confidence and patience to negotiate, go for it. However, since prices fluctuate significantly, knowing the standard rates mentioned above is essential to avoid overpaying. For most travellers, pre-booking a transfer remains the easiest and most reliable option.

Bali’s runway is a stunner!

Which option should you choose?

I personally recommend a private airport transfer. It’s the perfect balance of price, convenience, and reliability. While budget travellers may save a few dollars with rideshare apps, the extra effort isn’t always worth it after a flight.

Tips for getting from Bali Airport to Sanur

A few things that’ll make your arrival smoother:

  • Avoid exchanging money at the airport unless necessary. I bring Australian cash and visit an official money exchange shop when I arrive in Sanur for the best rates and no fees.
  • Download Grab or Gojek before you arrive if you go that route.
  • Screenshot your hotel address in case of emergencies.
  • Expect some traffic, especially in the evening.
  • Book your transfer in advance for peace of mind.
  • There is WiFi at Bali Airport. But if you organise an eSIM before you arrive, you can activate it as soon as you step off the plane. I have a comprehensive guide to the best Bali eSIM if you need more convincing 😉.

Arriving in Sanur

Once you arrive, you’ll quickly see why Sanur is my favourite place to visit in Bali. It’s much quieter than Kuta and Canggu, with a relaxed coastal vibe, a never-ending beachfront path, and plenty of great places to eat.
