Trying to find the best gifts for travellers in your life? Here are lots of recommendations from a traveller, for travellers. No matter where in the world you are, these holiday gift ideas suit all budgets.
Guys, I have a confession to make. I love Christmas. I love watching cheesy Christmas movies, listening to Christmas carols and baking Christmas treats. However, over the last few years, my Christmas wish list has definitely become a lot more practical. I’ve always asked for some kind of travel-related present, and this year is no exception.
So if you’re searching for gift ideas for a fellow travel lover (men and women included), here is a massive list of my top suggestions. I’ve included options to suit readers from around the world, as well as some fantastic small business gift ideas.
Best gifts for travellers
Under $50
🎄 Travel wallet
I got a very cute travel wallet myself a couple of Christmases ago – it even made my list of travel essentials. They’re great for holding important documents, several currencies and of course, your passport. Fellow Aussies, I recommend checking out Colette Hayman and Typo. Otherwise, Amazon is another option.
🎄 Camera strap
So when I was travelling around Europe, I discovered that when my camera strap was around my neck, it rubbed against my jumpers and made them unnecessarily pill. I decided to stop wearing it around my neck after this, but now I think I need a cool camera strap as a replacement. Etsy has a great range of leather, colourful and personalised camera strap options.
🎄 Organisers
Okay, getting packing cubes in your stocking is kind of boring. Even if they’re the best invention and every traveller should have them 😉. But a cute cosmetic case, jewellery organiser or set of bags is so much better. They also make a great gift for a female friend or colleague. Bon Maxie is an independent Australian brand with plenty of earring holders and accessory organisers. Otherwise, I recommend Typo (again) and Asos, which have so many cute makeup bags available.
🎄 Wallet
This is another gift idea that isn’t just for travellers. Everyone needs a good purse/wallet/card holder, whatever floats your boat. Asos has a range of budget and luxe purses available too.
🎄 Luggage tag
A cheap stocking stuffer, I love a good luggage tag. I also highly recommend them, as when I lost my suitcase in the US a few years ago, a luggage tag would have helped 🙄. I love this personalised option on Etsy, but my current one is from Typo. It’s the unicorn luggage tag below and it makes me smile every time I pick up my suitcase. Another overseas company that does great luggage tags as well is Flying Tiger.
🎄 Travel pillow
I am personally not a fan of the very popular neck travel pillows, but I currently travel with this perfect pillow from Pillowtalk. It’s the most handy pillow that rolls into a small bag. Not the prettiest present, but very practical. Kathmandu has a lot of options.
🎄 Map
Is there anything more fun for a travel addict than scratching off all the countries they’ve visited on a map? I think not. Available on Amazon and eBay, this is a fail-safe gift for a traveller. I also recommend checking out the inexpensive food maps available through the Legal Nomads shop. A fellow blogger, Jodi also sells tote bags and t-shirts.
🎄 Backpack
I actually used a Sportsgirl backpack as my everyday bag in Melbourne. But backpacks are the best bags for travel (particularly when flying). You can easily fit in all the essentials and I find it’s also better for your shoulders. I highly recommend checking out Forever 21’s range and Colette by Colette Hayman. For a vegan-friendly backpack alternative, keep scrolling.
One of the reasons I love reading so much is that it’s truly a form of escapism. Some books transport you to another time or another place (and sometimes both). Here are a few books I’ve read that have made me want to immediately jump on a plane.
Options: The Crazy Rich Asians trilogy and movie make me miss Singapore | Sea of Memories is a great book set in both past and present France and Scotland | Nicole Alexander will transport you to Outback Australia | I also can’t not mention the Outlander series and how it will hands down make you want to visit Scotland.

🎄 Suitcase
So this is what I asked Santa for last year. I only got a new suitcase before my Europe trip in 2017, but it lost a wheel in Brussels (I guess it was fed up with the cobblestones). My dad did a great repair job, but as I had some travels planned for 2019, I had to upgrade. My current suitcase haul includes options from Strandbags, Target and Kmart (I’ve become a suitcase collector it seems). For North American readers, I recommend Best Buy. I’ve also heard very good things about the Travel Hack Pro Cabin Case if you’re in the UK.
🎄 Instax
A Fujifilm Instax camera was my birthday present in 2018. Although I haven’t used it quite as much as I expected to so far, it’s a fun way to instantly capture memories. Here’s a link to packs on Amazon, but in Australia, you can purchase an Instax at Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Target – you name it!

My Instax and a lot of books
🎄 Travel prints
For the homebody traveller (a.k.a me), travel prints are a great gift idea. Melbourne-based Emma Kate Co. has prints with inspirational sayings at a range of price points. Jasmine Dowling is a Brisbane-based designer with fun prints as well. Worldwide, I love Scandinavian online retailer, Desenio – world maps included.
Under $200
🎄 Matt & Nat’s vegan accessories
I know I mentioned purchasing a backpack as a gift previously, but I had to include Matt & Nat in this pricier category. I first became aware of the Montreal-based brand while living in Canada. They’re known for producing high-quality vegan backpacks and accessories. You can also find their products on Amazon, The Iconic in Australia and John Lewis in the UK.
🎄 Allbirds sneakers
I love my Allbirds sneakers so much that I now have two pairs. I own a pair of both the wool runners and the tree skippers. They’re insanely comfortable and machine-washable. I couldn’t recommend them more.

🎄 Kindle Paperwhite
When it comes to the best gifts for travellers who like to read, may I suggest a Kindle? I’d be lost without mine when travelling (and when I’m not, let’s be real). I had an earlier model for quite a few years until it actually died (conveniently) when I was in London. So I headed to John Lewis and upgraded to the Kindle Paperwhite. If your loved one loves books, I can’t recommend a Kindle more.
🎄 Tinggly
I’ve done two Tinggly tours (in Oahu and Greece) and I think a Tinggly Experiences Gift Box would make a fantastic gift idea for a travel addict.
Well, I hope this bumper guide to the best gifts for travellers helps you this holiday season! I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas if you celebrate.
