5 Alternative Ways To Tour Madrid

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please read the full disclosure policy here.

Most major cities around the world offer hop-on, hop-off bus tours for tourists to see as many sights as possible. But there are other, more unique ways to experience a new place. Here are five alternative tours in Madrid, with each one allowing travellers to see a different side of the European city.

5 Alternative tours in Madrid

1. Crawl from pub to pub

For visitors over 18 years of age, why not experience the infamous Spanish nightlife through a Madrid pub crawl? The local guides at Sandemans New Europe Madrid take guests to two different neighbourhoods on alternate nights: Huertas and Malasaña. The pub crawl hits three bars and a club in each area, and every tour participant receives a free shot and special drink offers at every stop. This is a great way to see an alternative, yet important side to Madrid.

2. Segway through Madrid

Segways seem to be all the rage today, including in this Spanish city. Through Madrid by Segway Tours, visitors can choose between three unique Segway tours. Participants may enjoy zipping through the city centre, following the Madrid River and learning about the city’s ecosystem, or alternatively touring and eating tapas at the same time. There’s a Segway scenario to suit every type of tourist.

3. Take an alternative walk

Now, there are many free and paid guided walking tours through Madrid. But Viator offers the Madrid: Alternative and Trendy Tour. It takes visitors for a walk through the neighbourhoods of La Latina, Lavapiés and Triball. The latter used to be the city’s red-light district. The tour gives guests a glimpse into an alternative Madrid.

4. Devour Madrid

The way to a traveller’s heart is through his or her stomach, right? Madrid Food Tours has visitors covered with three different devouring options. Tour participants have the opportunity to learn more about the city’s history through the Tapas and Tavern Tour. Otherwise, there is the Ultimate Spanish Cuisine Tour or the Huertas Neighbourhood Food and Market Tour. Each offers something different but also something the same – lots of delicious Spanish food for everyone’s enjoyment.

5. Find out the city’s secrets

Everyone and every city have their secrets. The team behind MADride Travel shares Madrid’s secrets with guests through an alternative after-dark walking tour. The guides take visitors through its small streets and speak about the city’s dark legends. But never fear, as the tour also includes a stop at one of Madrid’s top rooftop terrace bars. MADride Travel also offers a pub crawl of their own and participants who join the secret stroll can get 50% off the consecutive tour.

There are many alternative ways to tour Madrid: through eating, drinking, partying, walking, and Segway-ing. So remember, there are various options when it comes to exploring Madrid and all cities. For more Europe travel inspiration, check out my archive.
