Hello again!

Life lately

I am typing this wrap-up from my brand new computer at my parent’s home on Magnetic Island. I spent the 18 months I was away using my tiny HP netbook. So to now have a new computer with a normal-sized screen and speakers that work is pretty damn motivational.

This month saw me add two paid writing gigs to my portfolio, which is another tick off my 2015 goals list and it’s only February. Bonus! I also celebrated my birthday last Friday. I don’t know how I feel about being 26 now, it kind of freaks me out! BUT I have high hopes that this year is going to be about me taking steps towards writing being my full-time career. Now that’s exciting.

Blog lately

Just in case you missed it, this is what I wrote about this month on Hayley on Holiday:

2015 Reading Challenge – What I Read in January: Reviews on the six books I managed to read in January as part of my 2015 Reading Challenge. February saw not as many books read, but a wrap-up will be coming up!

My Most Awkward Moments 1.0: This post did surprisingly well in terms of views. I guess people resonated with my awkwardness. I promise to continue documenting my fails for 2.0.

One Day in Ottawa + Five Things to do: Yes, I had only a day to see the sights in Canada’s capital city, but I think I fitted in quite a bit in less than 24 hours. Here I list five things I think you should definitely do with only one day to explore.

How My Working Holiday Changed Me: A little love letter to my second home city, Vancouver. My working holiday helped me grow and change in a lot of positive ways.

The Ultimate Guide to Budget Travel in the United States: Definitely the longest post I wrote this month, but I summed up everything I learned about budget travelling across the US into one article. I covered all the bases: transport, accommodation, food, activities and a few extras.

In Photos – Deep Cove Dreaming: The last trip I took from Vancouver was to the pretty Deep Cove. This is a glimpse at my time there plus lots of photos to showcase its serenity.

Reading lately

A Month on Syros, Greece- Ermoupoli, Finikas & a Lot of Blue by Legal Nomads: This essay from Jodi is exquisitely written – I felt transported to Greece as I read it. I love the addition of her times speaking and bonding with the locals. It nearly makes me want to be a European nomad myself.

Kerala Backwaters- A Photo Essay by Bridges & Balloons: This photo essay surprised me as the Bridges & Balloons team made the Kerala backwaters in India look so inviting and exotic, which is not what I expected. The country hasn’t been high on my list of places to visit, but with posts like this, it is moving up!

The Best Views in Paris by C’est Christine: I really enjoyed this insider article from Christine. Although I probably won’t be heading to Paris again in the near future, this post is bookmarked for when I do. It’s like learning about the city’s best bits from a local.

The World is Not as Dangerous as You Think by Twenty-Something Travel: I found this post by Stephanie really interesting as she speaks about an article published by the Daily Mail (which she was quoted in) that basically scaremongers solo females. I agree wholeheartedly with what she says in the post and will always advocate solo female travel – just use your wits and don’t do anything you wouldn’t do at home.

141 Thoughts I Had While Watching Fifty Shades of Grey by Buzzfeed: This has totally nothing to do with travel but I laughed A LOT whilst reading this story. I haven’t seen the movie and probably won’t any time soon, but now I have read this I don’t think I have to. It’s like the best movie recap ever.

And that’s a wrap! See you all in March!
