A Quick 48-Hour Guide To Toronto

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please read the full disclosure policy here.

Toronto is the world’s most multicultural city. It’s also the perfect East Coast weekend break, as the destination is only a 1.5-hour flight from New York City. Head to Canada’s largest city and enjoy its markets, vibrant city centre, and delicious food scene. Here ‘s a 48-hour guide to Toronto, including plenty of options for where to stay, what to do, and where to eat.

Where to stay in Toronto

There are two fantastic neighbourhoods around the city centre, which are home to some of the best Toronto IHG hotels. Yorkville is known as an upscale destination with several luxurious accommodation options. Meanwhile, locals recommend staying around the St Lawrence Market area in the city’s Old Town District. It’s home to many hotels and hostels, and guests will be within walking distance of some of Toronto’s biggest and best attractions.

Things to do in Toronto

There are plenty of things to keep you busy in Toronto. Visit the CN Tower and check out the city views, do the Edgewalk (if you dare), buy a SEA THE SKY Combo Ticket, or dine at the 360 Restaurant in the CN Tower. For shoppers, check out the Eaton Centre, which is North America’s busiest shopping mall. In the summertime, hop on board a ferry and head across Lake Ontario to the Toronto Islands. They are home to Centreville Amusement Park and offer one of the best skyline views. You can also visit the Royal Ontario Museum, which is known as one of North America’s most diverse museums.

For people looking for entertainment options, check out the comedy performances at The Second City, which is a renowned venue. If your visit doesn’t coincide with the Toronto International Film Festival, you can still spot many celebrities filming TV series and movies in the city year-round. Hit TV shows taking over Toronto include Suits, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Shadowhunters.

Where to eat in Toronto

Check out St. Lawrence Market, which National Geographic named the world’s best food market in 2012. Kensington Market is another popular option, as it’s home to a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and independent boutiques. Other spots that locals recommend include Bar Raval for tapas, Wilbur Mexicana for the best Mexican food in Toronto, Sake Bar Kushi for Japanese fare, and Buca for pizza, pasta, and seafood.

A bonus day trip to Niagara Falls

If you have more time to spend in the city or just really want to see Niagara Falls, it’s only a 1.5-hour drive from Toronto. You could easily wake up early and do a half-day trip to the breathtaking natural wonder. Take in the views, take a cruise, and wander the town before heading back to the city. If driving isn’t possible, regular buses depart daily from Toronto to this attraction.

After visiting Toronto for only 48 hours, you’ll be booking a return visit on your journey home. It’s just that kind of city.

P.S. Here are my top destinations in Canada and my entire Vancouver archive.
