Welcome back to Hayley Lately. Every Monday, this is where I share a little life update: what I’ve blogged, read, watched and enjoyed the previous week.
♥ Leaving. It’s official, I am no longer a Canadian resident. I didn’t do a lot during my last few days in Vancouver, except organise my life! However, I did go to Gastown (twice). Once was to drop off my work uniforms and pick up my last Tacofino fish burrito (naturally). Then I returned to meet my old co-worker from Melbourne, who was visiting Canada for a wedding. It was lovely to see her again and be surrounded by Aussies, as it had been awhile.
I only got teary once my friend dropped me at the airport (after he picked me up and had a surprise Tacofino fish taco for me. My friends know me well). I will miss my LA crew, but I won’t stop pressuring them until they visit me in Australia next year. I also know I will always return to Vancouver to visit, because it is truly a one-of-a-kind city.
♥ England. From Gatwick Airport, I headed straight to my dad’s cousin’s home in Bristol on Friday 29th. It was awesome spending time with family, and I got to see a lot during my time in Bristol. We visited the Cotswolds, watched my team lose the NRL Grand Final (insert crying emoji), checked out the main sights in Bristol and spent the day in Bath. It’s a beautiful part of the country.
On a side note, I know people say Canadians are the friendliest people, but the English certainly give them a run for their money. Everyone was so nice, even the border officials.
♥ Watching. *SPOILER* Speaking of my flight into London…I decided to download a few episodes of Nashville on Netflix to watch on the plane ride. Guys, I knew the main character died, but I still cried my way through three episodes. Fortunately everyone else was basically asleep around me, so no one saw the tears actually rolling down my cheeks. SO emotional. But the TV show isn’t available on Netflix in Europe, so I might have to wait until I return home to finish the series.
I also finally finished the first season of Designated Survivor. I have never really been a fan of Kiefer Sutherland, but he is excellent in the show (as is the entire cast). It is a show about the US President, but its unique take is what has kept me interested.
♥ Ireland. I flew to Dublin on 4th October, which is less than 1.5 hours from Bristol. I am stoked to be in my 26th country, but to be honest two days was a sufficient amount of time in the crowded city. I saw all the sights I wanted to, and spent too much money (SO expensive). Seriously though, the crowds are ridiculous. Plus every local power walks like they’re running late all.the.time. I want to tell them all to relax.
I am typing this from the train on Saturday, as I head to destination number two: Cork. My parents told me I had to come here and being the good daughter I am, I listened. I spent yesterday walking my way around the small city and really liked what I saw.
♥ Reading. I finished two books before boarding my plane: Love the One You’re With by Emily Giffin and Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I quite like Giffin’s romance writing, as it isn’t as clichéd as some other authors. I would also refer to Passenger as a YA version of Outlander.
♥ Blogging. I published a quick post before I left Canada, which details my travel plans for October, in case you’re interested. So far, I’ve been able to post an update most days on my Instagram and Facebook page, so make sure you’re following along there as well.
♥ Writing. I did a round-up of the most affordable fall and winter destinations in Canada, which was really interesting to research. There are some amazing places to visit for peak fall foliage! How Canadian do I sound ;)
This time next week I will have visited Galway and Belfast, and be on my way to Scotland via ferry! The life of a nomad.
